Rigid packaging injection molder Technimark LLC has opened its third manufacturing plant in Mexico, investing $5 million in a new 93,000 square-foot facility in Silao, 216 miles northwest of Mexico City.
Technimark, which now runs six plants overall on three different continents, is also expanding its operations in Asheboro, in Aachen, Germany, and in Suzhou, China, Kris Peavy, senior vice president of sales and marketing, said in a news release. The company’s two other plants in Mexico are in Mexicali and Reynosa.
Technimark plans to expand the Silao plant to 160,000 square feet and to increase the number of employees from 43 to 250, the company said. But it did not give a time frame.
“We will continue to expand in Mexico based on customer demand and growth in the overall market,” a company spokesman told Plastics News.
Asked by email what percentage of the $5 million investment has been spent on equipping the plant, the spokesman replied: “The majority.” He declined to reveal how many injection molding presses the new facility has or the names of the suppliers. But he did say the clamping force range of the presses is 125-650 tons.
When asked how easy or difficult it had been for Technimark to find technicians capable of operating the Silao facility, the spokesman responded: “Very good so far.” The Silao region has a “l(fā)arge, skilled and educated workforce.”
Founded in 1983, Technimark describes itself as a “global manufacturer of high-value, injection-molded components for the consumer packaging and select consumer non-durable end markets.” Its customer base, it says, “comprises some of the world’s largest and most successful brands.”
